Kiara Kerrigan

Kiara Kerrigan started work here at Ryans at the beginning of September 2021. This is a very peculiar time to start a new job as we were all just beginning to go into lockdowns with Covid! Kiara is a local girl coming from Salt Ash near the Newcastle airport. Kiara came with her horse, Kyle who is a part Connemara pony standing 15.1hh. Kiara bought Kyle when she was 10 years of age. Kyle was born wicked and bucked and bolted and was very very naughty. Completely unsuitable for a 10 year old. Eight years on, Kyle is still with the Kerrigan family and along he came with Kiara to Ryans. Kyle was still unsuitable and bucked and reared in a way that had us all completely shocked when we realised Kiara had been riding this since she was 10 years of age. Kiara has been here for two years now and at long last Kyle is settling down and starting to work. In actual fact, he is turning into a superstar however this is some 10 years after being bought. I have no idea how Kyle has not been sold to the knackery. Funnily enough he certainly is not for sale now. Kyle is 16 years of age and is working his way through his first medium level dressage tests showing a talent for flying changes. Kyle is also talented in the Eventing world and is now competing in the 95cm classes and does reasonably well in the Dressage phase, loves the Cross Country and mostly clear over the cross country fences but does go a bit fast and can end up with speeding fines. Show Jumping he is again very brave but sometimes a little fast and will sometimes have a rail or two down. As a schoolmaster he is perfect and Kiara is having just the best time. Kyle is tough as and fronts up for work every day. He has also started a little bit of piaffe work and canter pirouettes. When schooling at home he will jump through complex arrow heads, angled apexes and fairly advanced coffin fences. He is impressive and does canter around fences easily standing 1.10m high. Kyle is still momentarily naughty but Kiara is so used to him it does not cause one moment of interruption.

Kiara had been working here not more than 6 months when she bought a foal called Teddy. Teddy was a colt foal by BML Totality and out of Jamie R who is one of our outstanding older Jive Magic mares who has produced sensational offpsring including Prix St George and Grand Prix level youngsters. BML Totality is by Totilas who was an International legend breaking all world records as a competition stallion and as a sire already has so many Grand Prix offspring from his first drop that he has unquestionably produced a new dynasty. Kiara had been doing feed ups every day and was very familiar with all the foals here at Ryans in 2021-2022 season. Kiara felt that Teddy was the best foal of the season and without really consulting with any of us talked her mum into buying the foal. That is Kiara, not alot of talking but is quick to get on the front foot and action her ideas. Teddy is now 2 years of age and Kiara still thinks she bought very astutely. Actually we all think she bought very astutely! The plans for Teddy is to break him in lightly in 2024 and then turn him back out in the paddock to grow some more.

Kiara also has a three year old filly by Wimborne Constable who is the only 4* stallion competing in Australia at the moment. This mares name is Milah. Milah has been inseminated with frozen semen from the Northern Hemishphere Show Jumping stallion, Contendro I. Contendro I is a great stallion and the sire of Chipmunk who is ridden by the German rider, Michael Jung. This foal could be anything but certianly a top of the range eventer with Olympic potential.

Kiara is a real asset to Ryans and we'd be lost without her!
